If woodworking is your hobby than you most likely know that in order to create quality designed crafts you need the right tools. In this case you need a router table and a selection of router bits. For each specific project you will need different bits, but in order to get started I would recommend investing in the following bits:
1. Table Edge Router Bit – This bit will add a beautiful edge to any table, desktop or whatever it is that you are creating. To take of the rough pointed edge of any piece of wood this is a terrific bit.
2. Handrail Router Bit – In order to create your own custom railings and handrails you will need a router bit that is made specifically for this purpose. There will probably be many other projects that you will find this bit to be useful for as well.
3. Architectural Molding Bits – There are so many bits to choose from when designing your own moldings. I would suggest purchasing an architectural molding router bit set. This way you will be getting much more for your money in place of buying multiple router bits for this project alone. Let you imagination go wild as the possibilities are limitless once you own an architectural molding router bit set.
4. Crown Molding Router Bit Set and Extender – Although the bits set mention above is great for all moldings, if you want to make a very large crown molding you are best off purchasing a specific crown molding bit set that comes with an extender. The extender allows you to double the height of the moldings. You may have to make multiple passes in order to have the design in full.
5. Cabinet Door Router Bit Set – For professional and beautiful cabinet doors that look like they came straight from the factory you will need a router bit set that include panel raiser bit, a rail and stile bit and a jointing bit to create a perfectly matched rail and stile door frame.
6. Spiral Bits – For many of your basic cuts, you will want to have a spiral bit as part of your collection. With a spiral bit you can create a quick, neat and accurate cut. It can be used on soft and hard woods as well as ply-woods, laminates and plastics.
7. Flush Trim Router Bit – This bit is designed to create precise and efficient cuts on anything from soft and hard woods to composites and laminates etc. This is a bit that you will find many uses for
8. Hinge Mortising Router Bit – If you are making a cabinet or a box with an attached lid for instance, you will want to incorporate a hinge into the design in order for it to be practical and user friendly. With a hinge router bit you can create a shallow and neat cutout for a generic hinge. It will create a smooth finish eliminating chips and splints.
Purchasing all of these router bits may not be cheap, but it will be worthwhile investment. You will find so many ways to put all of the bits in to everyday use. Whatever project you set out to create will result in professional workmanship and quality design.
