About 3AD
Appliance Design is a new discipline of product design that cuts
the historical ties from desktops, PDAs and web pages to create
a set of principles for radically simple information appliances.
The AD conferences create a dialogue between appliance design
disciplines – including product and industrial design, information
design, interaction design, technology innovation and research
in human-centered studies – which will help those disciplines
re-establish themselves in a new context and so drive forward
innovation in an industry where users will increasingly assert
their demand for products that fit into their daily lifestyles.

programme
Previous conferences - 1AD
in 2003 and 2AD
in 2004 - were attended by over 300 researchers and developers
from around the world, presenting papers, posters, demonstrations
and design exhibits at three-day meetings at HP Labs, Bristol
UK.
This year’s 3AD
conference aims to encourage the maximum engagement and discussion,
and will feature an Appliance Bazaar, Design
Colloquia with two leading designers, and an International
Design Competition with a prize of £2,500 for the
winner.
