“Burgers” and “chic” are not words often found in the same sentence, but a new restaurant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is giving local foodies a treat for their eyes—and taste buds. Surround, a quality burger restaurant with an indulgent menu, enlisted Dubai-based H2R Design to create a minimal yet playful space that inspires a sense of community.

Rising to the challenge, H2R Designs created a colorful and engaging eatery full of quirky design features. To invite a childlike sense of exploration, the design team conceptually divided the interiors into “the workshop” and “the playground.” The former is an open-kitchen that allows customers to watch the chefs prepare their food, and the latter is the dining area, inspired by

The best interior design tool is a notebook

hari drack

Once in a while, designers emerge to challenge the ideas about how we live and how we could live. They are ready to experiment with an idea, some that are quite beautiful and some that can even take your breath away.

The greatest fault of some designers and homeowners is the follow through. Many times, it is just not there. Some interior designers have earned the profession a reputation of being lackadaisical or unreliable. Some of this can be excused because designers can be so busy that things fall through the cracks, but other designers don’t think that way. … They just can’t.

For all you DIYers and homemakers, I’m going to give you the ultimate design tip. Invest in a notebook. It doesn’t matter if it’s a spiral-bound or book-bound type. For your purposes, it can be a three-ring binder with loose-leaf paper. The best design tool is a

Sumptuous Home Gyms Are The Latest Design Luxury Amid Covid-19

hari drack

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced us to shift how we interact with the world, from shopping at the grocery store to spending time with family and friends to the establishments we frequent, be it a restaurant or a gym. The world is starting to open but with no vaccine and public regulations still in place, like wearing a mask, social distancing and reducing indoor capacity, it’s unsettling for most to dive back into daily life. This includes exercising at the once-beloved indoor gym.

As offices remain closed and many schools are shut in lieu of virtual learning, we’re spending more time than ever in our homes. Home workouts via fitness apps, YouTube videos or virtual subscriptions are skyrocketing but many aren’t used to working out at home. Where to begin? For the luxury market, the answer is creating a gym from scratch

How To Create a Kitchen With a Soul, According to Home Design Experts

hari drack

Of all the rooms in the house, the kitchen may evoke the warmest emotions. After all, it’s here that people gather with family and friends, to share food and good company. It’s no wonder the kitchen is often called the heart of the home—and that it’s a key selling point, promising a great lifestyle.

But kitchens also run the risk of being cold and soulless. What’s the point in having top-notch appliances if no one actually wants to hang out and use them? Like food, a kitchen needs to have a certain depth—let’s call it soul.

“A kitchen with a soul is a unique space that provides comfort, warmth, and a sense of peace,” says Ron Woodson of Woodson & Rummerfield’s House

Interior design tricks that brought calm to a chaotic open floor plan

hari drack

Marta and Scott Dragos built their Winchester home with an open floor plan. Not just because that’s how today’s families live, but because Scott, a former NFL player, is a pretty big guy. “We eliminated walls so my husband wouldn’t feel like he was living in a dollhouse,” Marta says.

However, with three young children and a puppy, the first floor felt chaotic. Everyone congregated in the great room, and the television was often left on during meals at the adjacent dining table. Meanwhile the formal living room sat empty, and never mind the mess in the playroom, which was the first thing people saw when they walked in. “The synergies of the rooms were off and not suited to our life,” Marta says.

Enter Liza Kugeler and Laura Ogden of Realm Interiors, who reconfigured and redecorated. Not only did they bring order to the home, they incorporated Marta’s stylish

Fall home decor trends: Comforting hues, flexible design

hari drack

In recent years, brown anything in a living space was considered by some arbiters of decor as drab and outdated. But this fall the hue is back in favor, in part because of the unsettled, anxious state of the world.

“Brown traditionally makes people feel comfortable and safe, and those are feelings that many of us are looking to our homes to provide,” says interior designer Dawn Hamilton of Oakland Park, Florida.

It’s just one of the trends in decor this season, when the pandemic

Sailing and nautical aesthetics informed CL3’s interiors for the Intercontinental hotel in the Raffles City Chongqing complex in China, which includes guest rooms that draw on the design of yacht cabins.

Intercontinental Chongqing Raffles City is located in the Raffles City Chongqing development, which features a “horizontal skyscraper,” the Crystal skybridge that connects four 250-metre tall skyscrapers.

The hotel’s location in the city’s Chaotianmen area, where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet, was the starting point for the designers.

“The project has a geographical and historical significance by being where the ancient emperor sent his fleet to meet the people,” CL3  said.

Interior design firm grows through relationship-based strategies | Business Observer

A degree in psychology isn’t required to practice interior design. But it can help.

Tracee Murphy, CEO and principal designer of Sarasota-based interior design firm Trade Mark Interiors, pursued a career in design after first earning a psychology degree. “It wasn’t until I was out of college and had my own place that I started to find it and fall in love with it,” Murphy says. “I began to do my house, my neighbor’s house and neighbor’s cousin’s house. It just naturally evolved.”

Murphy went back to school to earn an interior design degree when she had two young children and a part-time job. After about five years of working in interior design, she realized her degree in psychology was coming in handy while she worked closely with clients, in dealing with conflict between spouses and navigating differing opinions on projects.

Designer Of New HX50 Expects First Model To Deliver In 2023

Hill Helicopters is promoting an all-new helicopter design — the HX50. The 5-seat, turbine-powered, 500-horsepower rotorcraft is touted to ‘deliver a whole new experience in safety, performance, adventure, comfort, and elegance.’

Designed by a team led by aeronautical engineer Dr. Jason Hill, Ph.D., the HX50 utilizes a composite structure and rotor system, along with an optimized engine, reimagined avionics, and elevated interior design.

“The helicopter industry has long awaited an Elon Musk-style disruption that redefines the modern helicopter. The wait is over,” says Hill, founder and CEO of Hill Helicopters.

“The only way to create something that is truly ground breaking is to design from the ground up, giving equal focus to aerospace design, performance, and safety as well as to the artistic and experiential aspects, including comfort, ergonomics, intuitive technology, and luxury. The HX50 brings all of this
